How to change your grid certificate password

eg. if I have a grid certificate and I want to change its password to something I remember better ...

Step 1: Save Original files

Step 2: Create p12 File

You will be asked for a password for the p12 file.

mv ~/.globus/myCert.p12 ~/.globus/myCert.p12.deleteAfter
openssl pkcs12 -export -in ~/.globus/usercert.pem -inkey ~/.globus/userkey.pem -out ~/.globus/myCert.p12 -name "My Grid User Certificate"

Step 3: Create New pem Files

You will be asked for a new password for the newly generated userkey.pem file

mv ~/.globus/usercert.pem ~/.globus/usercert.pem.deleteAfter
mv ~/.globus/userkey.pem ~/.globus/userkey.pem.deleteAfter
openssl pkcs12 -clcerts -nokeys -in ~/.globus/myCert.p12 -out ~/.globus/usercert.pem
openssl pkcs12 -nocerts -in ~/.globus/myCert.p12 -out ~/.globus/userkey.pem

Step 4: Change Protections

cd ~/.globus
chmod 400 userkey.pem *.p12
chmod 444 usercert.pem

Step 5: Test

Step 6: Cleanup

You can delete the obsolete files if the tests in the previous step work.

cd ~/.globus
chmod 600 *.deleteAfter
rm -f *.deleteAfter
